7 Common Cruising Concerns
1) WILL WE GO STIR-CRAZY? On today's ships there are activities galore. But if you're hesitant, pick a short 3 to 5 night trip, or a longer one with stops in ports nearly everyday. 2) IS THE SCHEDULE TOO REGIMENTED? You can show up for as many or as few events as you like. Mealtimes can also be at your leisure if you pick a vessel with dinning flexibility, round the clock menues or room service. 3) IS THERE REALLY ANY DOFFERENCE BETWEEN THE CRUISE LINES? The key to a great shipboard vacation is to match your family's main intrests with a cruise that offers the activities and amenities you can't go without. Bonus; You'll meet like minded passengers. 4) HOW IMPORTANT ARE PORTS OF CALL? Even though ships themselves seem to be the destination these days, traveling to new lands with ease is really what cruising is all about. Once you pinpoint the line that will serve you best, check out its map of itineraries from relaxing islands to cultural cities. 5) IS ONE DAY IN A PORT OF CALL ENOUGH TIME TO EXPLORE? I would say YES. Think of a cruise as a way to sample the world's best sites. If you like a destination so much that you find yourself wanting more, return for a longer land stay. 6) WILL I GET SEASICK? Large cruise ships are now built with state of the art stabilizers that greatly reduce motiom felt on the rough seas ahead. However, if you suspect you're especially sensitive to movement, ask your doctor for medication that best suits you: also, there is usually something availabe fron the ship physician should you need it. 7) WHAT ARE MY CHANCES OF GETTING A STOMACH FLU ON BOARD? Very low. Cruise staffs sanitize ships daily to prevent the spread of norovirus, gastrointestinal illiness (the secind most prevalent illness on the land after the common cold). The easiest and best way to avoid becoming ill is to wash your hands frequently and use sanitizing gel. |
